One Month Without My Husband

Well this past Sunday was officially one month without C. He went off to basic training for the Air Force and left on December 27, 2009. It seems like an eternity without him! I have had some major laziness happening on my end and I feel lost without him. However, I've started looking for another job this week. I am currently a personal trainer at a local fitness club, but the owner hired me for a new club being built downtown. I found out Friday that the club's construction has major delays and we probably won't start working until early March.

On a sad note, C was injured in Basic training and mainly hurt his left knee. He has stress fractures in both knees and his left knee has some other injuries to his MCL. We were hoping he would recover and be able to rejoin his Basic Training Flight, but it does not look so promising. It looks like he will be medically discharged and will have to remain in the medical unit for another 2 and half months! Ugh, I cannot imagine one more day without him much less months! I keep looking up though, because I know God has a plan for us.

I have learned a great deal from this whole experience; in which I am forever grateful! It is so important to be with those that we love and make sure they know we love them everyday. Life is too short to be apart or hold grudges! I love my husband and I pray he comes home to me safe and as soon as possible! I am just thankful I will not have to worry about C going to Iraq or Afghanistan. I now have a new found respect for all the wives and husbands left behind.

Letters

I got my first letter from C yesterday. I smiled, laughed and teared up all at once. I now can imagine how it must have been in the olden days with no cell phones and the only form of communication was writing letters. I must say it was the best feeling to hear from him! Letters are so romantic and I can re-read them over and over again; not like a phone conversation where you can not replay it. I have been writing C everyday and I know he will find encouragement with them. I miss him dearly and I did not realize it would be this hard to be away from him. 2 weeks seems like an eternity apart and I still have 6 weeks to go.

It does put everything into perspective though. The difficult things in life always put a new perception on everything and life seems more vivid. Because it is clear to me now, being without him, that I have been taking him for granted with all the small things he did for me. When I cannot reach a bowl on the top shelf, I wonder how did I ever survive without him around? It is miraculous how God works that way. "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" is definitely an understatement!

Naval Museum

I'm officially a military wife on December 27th. C is leaving for basic training and will be gone for 2 months. He will be joining the Air Force's Special Forces Division and he is so excited about it. I am excited for him too, because I know he has always wanted to serve his country and challenge himself in ways ordinary jobs cannot provide.

Today, C took me and his Brother to the Naval Museum here in Pensacola. (I am standing in front of a propeller located at the museum in the above picture). It was a fun day and I am happy to see my husband intrigued and eager to learn. This country is lucky and blessed to have him on the team.
