My Picks for the Worst Dresses at the Oscars

Vera Farmiga was my top pick for worst dressed at the Oscars. I loved the color of this weird manifesto of ruffles, but it looked like the designer went overboard (which can happen often) with the "pizazz" of the gown. The gown is by designer Marchesa which is, ironically, the same designer of my top pick for Best Dressed: Sandra Bullock. The irony of it!

Zoe Saldana in Givenchy is the epitome of indecisive design work. It either should have been an simple A-line cut with that lovely color of lavender, or made the top portion of the dress match with the bouffant of the lower. At least Zoe manages to keep smiling in her purple-poofy mess of a gown.

Mariah Carey in Valentino was just an over-all bad choice for her figure. It makes her look so top-heavy and her platform nude shoes are just all wrong. Mariah, you need to fire whoever is dressing you!

A Night at the Oscars...The Hurt Locker "hurts" Avatar Big Time!

The Hurt Locker killed most of Avatar's hopes: winning Best Picture and scoring first female Director win. They took home six oscars in total! I have not seen this Award winning film yet, but when my husband comes home it will be one of the first we see together. The Hurt Locker definitely blew out Hollywood's biggest evening!

I was so proud of my two picks for the evening: Sandra Bullock for her performance in The Blind Side and Christoph Waltz for his performance in Inglorious Basterds. I really hoped they would win and they didn't disappoint. Christoph Waltz's performance was so incredible as the Nazi "Jew hunter" and I have never seen an actor deserve to win more brilliantly (even though I hated his character with a passion)!
My first job in Hollywood was as an extra on Miss Congeniality 2 and I remember Sandra Bullock coming up and saying hello to all the extras (me being one of them). She was so friendly and professional. I am so happy she took home a much deserved and long awaited win.

My favorite dress of the evening was worn by Sandra Bullock. She graced an old Hollywood look with a Marchesa lace and metallic sheath. It was very elegant and a perfect compliment next to her Oscar.

I also loved Cameron Diaz in this brilliantly dazzling Oscar de la Renta gown! She looked so glamorous and elegant. Simply beautiful, Cameron!

Jake Gyllenhaal made my heart skip a beat showing up in a custom-tailored Burberry Tuxedo. I don't think it was just the tux that made my heart stop though. Woe, this guy is seriously handsome!

All together a great night at the Oscars!

Twilight Review: Suck Your Blood or Just Sucks

There have been a few vampire movies that I have enjoyed such as "Interview with the Vampire" and "Blade", however I cannot say I enjoyed "Twilight" like I thought I would have. I had been excited to see it since all the hype Stephanie Meyer's debut novel series had received. I must say I was very disappointed with the film. It could have been so much better if the direction was on track. I felt so awkward when up close shots were not needed and some scenes were way to slow for the story line. It hurts to see such a great story come across almost cheesy at the theatres. My nachos were cheesy enough thank you.

I did love Robert Pattinson, (pictured to the right) casted as Edward Cullen; and Billy Burke, casted as Bella's father. They both were enjoyable to watch. Visually, Robert Pattinson graded an A+ as gorgeous vampires go, but he was hurting for better direction. I absolutely love the story idea of a young girl falling for a Vampire, but the film did not meet up to my excitement. I do plan to read Stephanie Meyer's novels, regardless of how feel about the film. I pray they make much needed adjustments to additional movies to come (if any).

I suggest to rent "Twilight" instead of wasting your money on going to the theatre. It does have some spectacular cinematography and young teens definitely should enjoy the visual story telling of Stephanie Meyer's beloved Edward and Bella. However, in my opinion, hot vampire love story on big screen equals catastrophe.

I give this movie one out of four stars.

Weekend at the Movies: Saturday Edition

I hope everyone is having a great weekend before Turkey Week! I did not give a weekend update for the movies yesterday due to my birthday landing on a Friday. So here we go:

This weekend I look forward to seeing "Twilight" which opened on my birthday November 21, 2008. It has already made $35 million in its first day release. That is very impressive for a movie that critics say, "Is similar to One Tree Hill with fangs", which is making fun of a popular teeny-bopper television show on the WB.

"Twilight" is based off the very popular book series (with the same name) about Teen Vampire Romance, by Stephanie Meyer. Starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Billy Burke, Peter Facinelli, and Elizabeth Reaser. Directed by Catherine Hardwicke will make it an entertaining film with excellent cinematography. I have looked forward to this film all year.

Synopsis:
"Twilight" is an action-packed, modern-day love story between a teenage girl and a vampire. Bella Swan has always been a little bit different, never caring about fitting in with the trendy girls at her Phoenix high school. When her mother re-marries and sends Bella to live with her father in the rainy little town of Forks, Wash., she doesn't expect much of anything to change. Then she meets the mysterious and dazzlingly beautiful Edward Cullen, a boy unlike any she's ever met. Edward is a vampire, but he doesn't have fangs and his family is unique in that they choose not to drink human blood. Intelligent and witty, Edward sees straight into Bella's soul. Soon, they are swept up in a passionate, thrilling and unorthodox romance. To Edward, Bella is what he has waited 90 years for--a soul mate. But the closer they get, the more Edward must struggle to resist the primal pull of her scent, which could send him into an uncontrollable frenzy. But what will Edward and Bella do when a clan of new vampires--James, Laurent and Victoria--come to town and threaten to disrupt their way of life? Synopsis by Movietickets.com

"Quantum of Solace" Review

"Quantum of Solace" opened the weekend with a huge Bang in which only James Bond knows how to accomplish, earning over $67 million. It did beat out "Casino Royale's" opening weekend of $30 million. It was an entertaining thrill ride with some dialogue in between. It was much too short in my opinion, but only because I was on the edge of my seat for the entire length of the film wanting more and more. However, I was disappointed by some of the direction, but overall it is worth seeing.

I liked the new Bond girl, named Olga Kurylenko, tremendously. She played Camille in the film, who was a dark and sexy character and looked very similar to Catherine Zeta-Jones. I enjoyed her part in the story and how she had "woman-power" strength that I wish could be bottled and distributed to every woman.

Daniel Craig as "James Bond"
I did enjoy Daniel Craig, as James Bond, once again. He can pull off being a bad-ass hit man/spy character with such coordination and yet still have charisma to swoon his women prey. It interests me to see an actor pull this intense characteristic-combo off. It would be extremely hard (for an actor) to come across as evil enough to kill at every whim, without a blink or an ounce of sympathy, than immediately drop to the other side of the spectrum and be gentle with so much charisma. The crowd is cheering for James Bond when it would be so easy to see him as a sociopath. It is truly amazing to me to see that fine line an actor has to walk along sometimes to pull out his character on screen.

I would highly recommend "Quantum of Solace". Directed by Marc Forster, starring Daniel Craig and Olga Kurylenko. It runs 106 minutes.

I rate this film 3 stars out of a possible 4 stars.

Happy Friday! Weekend at the Movies.

From this Friday onward, Fridays will be all about movies. In other words, I will give some chatter about movies coming out for the weekend and any movies I had seen throughout the week.
C-Man took me to see a movie this week called "Changeling". It is a movie directed by Clint Eastwood, and starring Angelina Jolie. I highly recommend this film. I did not expect this movie to be so intriguing and dark. It is a true story about a woman in 1928 Los Angeles, who is searching for her missing son. It is slow at times, but I was lost in the story and I am certain it will have some Oscar nominations.

C-man wants to take me to see the new James Bond movie, "Quantum of Solace" opening today Novemeber 14, 2008. It should be the top box office seller for this weekend. I will give my opinion as soon as I see it. I really love Daniel Craig as James Bond. If you have not seen "Casino Royale", shame on you! It is jam-packed with action, has a sizzling story line, a great love story, and a few unexpected twists. If you have not seen "Casino Royale", I highly recommend this film before you see "Quantum of Solace".
